<div style="font-size: 13px;">
The reason behind this problem is a built-in service which is called "<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Windows Update</strong>". If this service is not running in background and if the service is set to disabled in Windows 8, you'll always get this strange error message while downloading any app from Windows 8 Store.</div>
<div style="font-size: 13px;">
<strong style="background-color: whitesmoke; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: center;"><br /></strong></div>

Solution is very simple. You just need to re-enable "Windows Update" service and your problem will be fixed. Simply follow these simple steps to fix the problem:</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">1.</strong> Press <strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Win+R</strong> keys together to launch RUN dialog box. Type <strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">services.msc</strong> in the textbox and press Enter. It'll open Services Manager.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">2.</strong> Scroll down to bottom and you'll see a service "<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Windows Update</strong>" in the list. Double-click on it and set its <strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Startup type</strong> to <strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Automatic</strong>.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<img alt="Windows_Update_Service_Automatic_Running.png" pxz:uid="-3cfd65c4-2" src="http://media.askvg.com/articles/images4/Windows_Update_Service_Automatic_Running.png" style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">3.</strong> That's it. Close services manager window and now you'll not face any problem while downloading any app from Windows 8 Store.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
I don't see any reason behind disabling "Windows Update" service in Windows 8 as its an important service which helps in protecting your Windows by installing latest security and other updates released by Microsoft. If someone is using a pirated Windows 8 OS, there are chances that the user disabled the service to prevent Windows from installing updates which automatically detects pirated Windows in computers. It might also possible that some users disable the service accidentally which is rare though...</div>

Windows 8 also comes with <span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: underline;"><strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Windows Live ID integration</strong></span> feature which allows you to use your Windows Live email ID to log into Windows and to sync your settings and files to Microsoft servers which might become very useful if you use more than one computer. You can sign into another Windows 8 computer using same email ID and it'll automatically bring all your personalized settings to the new computer system.</div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
While using computers its quite obvious to face problems. There are many Windows 8 users who face strange problems while using Windows Store apps. Some of most frequently faced problems are as following:</div>
<ul style="list-style-image: url(http://media.askvg.com/images/b.png); margin: 0px; padding: 2px 0px 2px 15px;">
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 15px; padding: 0px;">App is unable to connect to Internet</li>
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 15px; padding: 0px;">Images, logos are not shown while using apps</li>
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 15px; padding: 0px;">Windows Store or apps can't open</li>
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 15px; padding: 0px;">Windows Store or app crashes</li>
</ul>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
Many times you might also get various error messages while trying to open Windows Store or an app. There are also many users who face problems while using Microsoft account feature in Windows 8. Sometimes they receive error messages while trying to sync settings and sometimes the settings are not synced at all.</div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
Most of the times these kind of issues are fixed automatically upon a computer restart but sometimes these issues can give you headaches.</div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
Today we are going to share 2 free troubleshooting utilities released by Microsoft which automatically detect issues in your Windows 8 computer and fix them within few seconds: Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter and Microsoft Accounts Troubleshooter.</div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
"<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter</strong>" has been developed to troubleshoot and fix all known problems which have been faced by Windows 8 users while using various metro apps downloaded from Windows Store. When you launch it, it automatically detects following issues:</div>

Fix Windows Store, Metro Apps and Microsoft Account Related Problems in Windows 8 Microsoft's new OS Windows 8 comes with a bra...

Desktop Tile Missing from Windows 8 Start Screen, Can’t Add from All Apps Page

<div style="font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Start Screen</strong> in <span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: underline;"><strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Windows 8</strong></span> is one of the most impressive things (for some people) and at the same time one of the most irritating things (for many people) present in the OS. Start Screen works like a replacement for the good old Start Menu. It shows big <span style="color: #db7100; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: static;"><span class="kLink" style="background-color: transparent; background-image: none; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-style: none !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-top-width: 0px !important; display: inline !important; float: none !important; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 1px !important; position: static; width: auto !important;">tiles</span></span> of programs in form of a grid. You can add new tiles or remove existing tiles to customize Start Screen appearance.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
Windows 8 also shows all program shortcuts in a new "<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">All Apps</strong>" page which is actually a part of the new Start Screen. If you removed a shortcut accidentally or if you want to restore a removed shortcut, you can go to this "All Apps" page and can pin or add the shortcut again to Start Screen.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
But sometimes Windows 8 users face a strange problem. Actually Windows 8 Start Screen shows a rectangle tile of <strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Desktop</strong> which allows you to switch to <span style="color: #db7100; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: static;"><span class="kLink" style="background-color: transparent; background-image: none; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-style: none !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-top-width: 0px !important; display: inline !important; float: none !important; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 1px !important; position: static; width: auto !important;">Desktop</span></span> from Start Screen. Due to some unknown reasons, sometimes <strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Desktop tile gets deleted</strong> from Windows 8 Start Screen.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<img alt="Desktop_Tile_Missing_Windows_8_Start_Screen.png" pxz:uid="1230e05b683-1" src="http://media.askvg.com/articles/images4/Desktop_Tile_Missing_Windows_8_Start_Screen.png" style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
If the user tries to add it using All Apps page by pressing Ctrl+Tab keys, it doesn't show in the list as shown in following screenshot:</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<img alt="Desktop_Shortcut_Missing_Apps_List.png" pxz:uid="1230e05b684-2" src="http://media.askvg.com/articles/images4/Desktop_Shortcut_Missing_Apps_List.png" style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
It becomes quite irritating and there is no way to add the Desktop tile back to Start Screen. The reason behind this strange problem is unknown, it might be possible that some 3rd party software removed the tile or may be temporary files cleaning software such as CCleaner removed the shortcut? But the real reason is still unknown. Anyway lets move to the solution of this problem!</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
Actually Desktop tile shown at Start Screen is a special type of shortcut which is present in "<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Programs</strong>" folder and if the shortcut gets deleted from the folder, it also disappears from Start Screen and you'll not find it in "All Apps" page as well.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<img alt="Desktop_Shortcut_Missing_Programs_Folder.png" pxz:uid="1230e05b397-3" src="http://media.askvg.com/articles/images4/Desktop_Shortcut_Missing_Programs_Folder.png" style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
To restore Desktop tile at Start Screen, you just need to copy Desktop shortcut in "Programs" folder again and it'll reappear at Start Screen.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
If you are also facing Desktop tile missing in Windows 8 Start Screen problem, you can follow these simple steps to fix the problem:</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">1.</strong> Press "<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Win+R</strong>" keys together to open RUN dialog box. Now copy following string in text box and press Enter:</div>
<blockquote style="background-color: whitesmoke; border: 1px dotted rgb(221, 221, 221); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px 0px 15px; padding: 13px 10px 0px;">
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
%programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs</div>
</blockquote>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
It'll open "Programs" folder containing various shortcuts which are shown at Start Screen or "All Apps" page.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">2.</strong> Now download Desktop tile shortcut using following link:</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: underline;"><strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"><a href="http://media.askvg.com/downloads/2013/01/Desktop-Tile-for-Windows-8-Start-Screen.zip" style="color: #004276; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: initial;">Download Desktop Tile for Windows 8 Start Screen</a></strong></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
Its a ZIP file, extract it and you'll find a file "<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Desktop</strong>" in the extracted folder.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">3.</strong> Copy "Desktop" file from the extracted folder and paste it in the "<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Programs</strong>" folder.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<img alt="Desktop_Shortcut_Copied_Programs_Folder.png" pxz:uid="1230e05b4f6-4" src="http://media.askvg.com/articles/images4/Desktop_Shortcut_Copied_Programs_Folder.png" style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">4.</strong> That's it. As soon as you copy the shortcut, Desktop tile will be re-added automatically to Start Screen. If you still don't see the tile, you can re-pin it using "All Apps" page. Now it'll appear on that page.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">

Linux is much more stable than Windows. Linux is known to run for years without even a reboot, much less reinstallation. Windows, on the other hand, always degrades over time, even WITHOUT malware infections. The Blue Screen of Death (or the equivalent) becomes more and more frequent over time, and Windows becomes slower and slower. Eventually, Windows becomes unbootable and requires reinstallation.</div>

Safety/Security</h3>

<div style="background-color: white; font-size: 17px;">
Linux is much safer from viruses and other malware. One reason is the need for special authorization to change the system in Linux, which malware doesn't have. (This is where root comes in.) Another reason is the open source nature of Linux. Because the source code is public information, more people are available to work on Linux than is the case for proprietary operating systems like Windows. Because there are so many more developers of Linux, any bugs and security issues are resolved MUCH, MUCH sooner than is the case with Windows. As a Linux user, you can say good-bye to buying expensive, RAM-eating anti-malware software. More importantly, say good-bye to opportunities to unwittingly host a spam mail server or to let your credit card numbers and passwords fall into the wrong hands.</div>

<div style="background-color: white; font-size: 17px;">
Installing software is more convenient AND safer in Linux. Each Linux distro has a centralized repository containing as many as tens of thousands of FREE software packages and a system that allows you to download AND install it automatically and safely. You don't even need to reboot to use the software. With Windows, you may have to go to a store or wait for it to arrive by mail/UPS/FedEx. Then you have to install it manually and then reboot. While there is freeware for Windows, you have to search the web for it, and some of those programs have malware, so you're taking a risk.</div>

Linux saves money in so many ways. Linux is free, but Windows is expensive. If you acquired Windows by purchasing a computer, you paid for Windows indirectly, as the vendor or manufacturer charged a higher price in order to cover the cost of production. Linux saves money not only on your operating system and software but on hardware as well. The latest version of any Linux distro will work on a 5-year-old computer, and some will even work on a 10-year-old computer. You do NOT need to replace your computer every 2 to 3 years as the computer industry wants you to. Then there are the hidden costs of the instability and insecurity of Windows. Of course, you can see why the computer industry wants you to use Windows.</div>

Independent</h3>

<div style="background-color: white; font-size: 17px;">
Relying on Windows makes you dependent on Microsoft, a corporation with too much money and power. This allows Microsoft to decide for you when it's time for you to buy a new operating system, new software, and a new computer. What would you do if Microsoft decides to kill support for your Windows OS and triples the price of its current OS? What would you do if Microsoft disappeared? On the other hand, Linux doesn't lock you in as Microsoft does. Even if the individuals behind a particular open source project quit, the public source code allows new people to resume the project. If the people behind your favorite Linux distro make changes that you don't like, you are free to migrate to another distro. The process of migrating from one Linux distro to another is even easier than the process of migrating from Windows to Linux.</div>
<h3 style="background-color: white;">
Convenient</h3>

<div style="background-color: white; font-size: 17px;">
Linux is much more convenient to install. Many Linux distros can be installed on your computer in just a few minutes and INCLUDE a variety of useful software for word processing, spreadsheets, web browsing, email, multimedia, and more. On the other hand, it takes at least an hour to install Windows, which is very spartan out-of-the-box. Then you have to manually install drivers and software for your applications.</div>
<h3 style="background-color: white;">
Better for the Environment</h3>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-size: 17px;">
Linux allows you to keep your old computer running longer. This means less toxic electronic waste, which all too often ends up in the landfills of Third World countries with inferior, unenforced, or nonexistent environmental laws. Fewer purchases of new computers means less consumption of natural resources and less pollution generated in the manufacturing process.</div>
