Disable Search Indexing</h3>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
In order to speed up the search process, the Search indexing service scans through the files and folders on the Windows system and records information about them in an index file. But it also consumes some resources from the system, so if you are performing searches once in a blue moon then it would be better to keep this feature disabled<br />
<span style="font-size: 17px; text-transform: capitalize;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: 17px; text-transform: capitalize;"><b>Remove Unwanted Startup Programs</b></span></div>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Startup programs run when your login to the system, so have a look at which programs you have allowed to run on start up, as you might find many of those in the list which you no longer need at all or you do not need them to start on the system boot up. For disabling unwanted programs from running on startup, click <em style="border: currentColor; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Start</em>, then type <em style="border: currentColor; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">msconfig</em> and hit Enter. Now in the <em style="border: currentColor; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">System Configuration</em> window, go to the <em style="border: currentColor; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">startup</em>tab and uncheck the programs that you don’t want to run upon startup.</div>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; text-align: center; vertical-align: baseline;">

<h3 style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 22px; margin: 0px; padding: 28px 0px 14px; text-transform: capitalize; vertical-align: baseline;">
Disable Aero</h3>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The Aero feature adds a great look and feel to your Windows 7 OS, no doubt it is one of the great perks of Windows 7. But what if you are running a slow computer or your system is running some resource hungry applications, then it would be better if you keep this feature disabled. Follow the simple steps<a href="http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-enabledisable-aero-snap-in-windows-7/" style="border: currentColor; color: #18b8e6; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">here</a> to disable it in Windows 7.</div>
<h3 style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 22px; margin: 0px; padding: 28px 0px 14px; text-transform: capitalize; vertical-align: baseline;">
Turn Off System Sounds</h3>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
If you don’t really need the system sounds, then you should keep them disabled for the better utilization of the system resources. For this purpose, click <em style="border: currentColor; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Start</em>, then type <em style="border: currentColor; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">mmsys.cpl</em> and hit <em style="border: currentColor; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Enter</em>. Now disable the sounds you don’t need from this dialogue box.</div>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; text-align: center; vertical-align: baseline;">
<a href="http://cloud.addictivetips.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/SystemSounds.jpg" style="border: currentColor; color: #18b8e6; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><img alt="System Sounds" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="450" src="http://cloud.addictivetips.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/SystemSounds_thumb.jpg" style="border: 0pt currentColor; clear: both; display: block; margin: 0px auto 0.5em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;" width="404" /></a></div>
<h3 style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 22px; margin: 0px; padding: 28px 0px 14px; text-transform: capitalize; vertical-align: baseline;">

<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
It is recommended to remove the unwanted fonts from Windows 7. To remove fonts click <em style="border: currentColor; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Fonts</em>, then select the font and hit <em style="border: currentColor; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Delete</em>.</div>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; text-align: center; vertical-align: baseline;">
<img alt="Delete Fonts" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="368" src="http://cloud.addictivetips.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/DeleteFonts.jpg" style="border: 0pt currentColor; clear: both; display: block; margin: 0px auto 0.5em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;" width="494" /></div>
<h3 style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 22px; margin: 0px; padding: 28px 0px 14px; text-transform: capitalize; vertical-align: baseline;">
Optimize Application Launching Time</h3>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
You can optimize the application launching time by setting the values of EnablePrefetcher and EnableSuperfetch parameters to 1. In order to set the value of these parameters, open the registry editor and navigate to <em style="border: currentColor; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Session Manager \ Memory Management \ PrefetchParameter</em> option in the left sidebar, here you will be able to see these parameters in the right side bar.</div>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; text-align: center; vertical-align: baseline;">
<a href="http://cloud.addictivetips.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/EnablePrefetch.jpg" style="border: currentColor; color: #18b8e6; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><img alt="EnablePrefetch" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="321" src="http://cloud.addictivetips.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/EnablePrefetch_thumb.jpg" style="border: 0pt currentColor; clear: both; display: block; margin: 0px auto 0.5em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;" width="554" /></a></div>
<h3 style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 22px; margin: 0px; padding: 28px 0px 14px; text-transform: capitalize; vertical-align: baseline;">
Always Keep The Latest Device Drivers</h3>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
It is a well known fact that the latest the device driver is, the faster the performance of the device will be, so always check for the latest updates regarding your system’s device drivers. In this regard you can also get help from some tools like the <a href="http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/device-doctor-find-windows-7-driver-updates/" style="border: currentColor; color: #18b8e6; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Device Doctor</a>.<br />
<span style="font-size: 17px; text-transform: capitalize;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: 17px; text-transform: capitalize;"><b>Prioritize The Running Processes</b></span></div>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Process priority is a basic operating system functionality, almost every operating system offers a way to increase or decrease the priority of the processes. So if you feel that your core application is not running up to the mark or some other secondary application is taking more resources then required, then you can change the priorities of the respective processes to keep your system running smooth.</div>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; text-align: center; vertical-align: baseline;">
<img alt="ChangePriority" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="312" src="http://cloud.addictivetips.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/ChangePriority.jpg" style="border: 0pt currentColor; clear: both; display: block; margin: 0px auto 0.5em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;" width="354" /></div>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

<h3 style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 22px; margin: 0px; padding: 28px 0px 14px; text-transform: capitalize; vertical-align: baseline;">
Defragment Your Disks Regularly</h3>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Disk Defragmentation makes sure that the stored files are in one contiguous piece which results in better system performance. So its always recommended to defragment your system properly to optimize your system performance.</div>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<a href="http://cloud.addictivetips.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/diskdeferegmenter.jpg" style="border: currentColor; color: #18b8e6; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><img alt="disk-deferegmenter" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="400" src="http://cloud.addictivetips.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/diskdeferegmenter_thumb.jpg" style="border: 0pt currentColor; clear: both; display: block; margin: 0px auto 0.5em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;" width="504" /></a></div>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-size: 17px; text-transform: capitalize;">Find Bottlenecks</span></div>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
If your system is performing sluggishly then it is vital that you should identify the reason for this bottleneck. Once you are sure of what is causing the issue, then you will easily be able to kill the culprit.<a href="http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/use-resource-monitor-to-check-system-performance-in-windows-7/" style="border: currentColor; color: #18b8e6; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Resource Monitor</a> is one of the great Windows 7 utilities which you can use to investigate such situations.</div>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; text-align: center; vertical-align: baseline;">
<a href="http://cloud.addictivetips.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/cputab.jpg" style="border: currentColor; color: #18b8e6; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><img alt="cpu-tab" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="369" src="http://cloud.addictivetips.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/cputab_thumb.jpg" style="border: 0pt currentColor; clear: both; display: block; margin: 0px auto 0.5em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;" width="504" /></a></div>
<h3 style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 22px; margin: 0px; padding: 28px 0px 14px; text-transform: capitalize; vertical-align: baseline;">
Switch Off Unwanted Windows Features</h3>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Windows Features offers a great way to enable/disable specific Windows features. You can load it by clicking <em style="border: currentColor; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Control Panel > Programs > Windows Features on or off</em>. Here identify which features you don’t need and disable them to avoid the resources usage. Just like I don’t play much of the default windows games, so I have kept them disabled.</div>
<div style="border: currentColor; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; text-align: center; vertical-align: baseline;">

<div style="border: currentColor; margin-bottom: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<div style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px;">
<br /></div>
<h2 style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; font-weight: normal; line-height: 18px; margin: 0px 0px 15px; padding: 0px;">
Set Power Settings to High Performance Mode on Windows 7</h2>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
As we move along in the Faster 7 series and work on speeding up your operating system, you will find that not all tips apply to you. Do not fret, I have a whole catalog of speedup tips. In the instance that a tip does not apply to you, just make a mental note (for the future) and move on to the next Windows 7 speed tip. Windows 7 Performance Mode is built into the power management portion of the operating system. For many users who have laptops this feature comes set as “balanced” right after they have installed their operating systems.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
Modifying the power settings to ‘Performance Mode’ will ensure your operating system will run top notch whether or not you have your computer plugged into an outlet. Many people think this setting just impacts their “sleep mode” and “hibernation” settings. In reality, power management for operating systems has become far more sophisticated and even cause modification in processor speeds and visual effects.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
Personally, I do not use my laptop without it plugged into a wall, so this is definitely a feature I want to make sure is enabled.<br />
1. Select the Windows 7 <strong>‘Start Button’</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
2. Choose<strong> ‘Control Panel’</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
3. Select the<strong> ‘System and Security’ </strong>item</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
4. Halfway down, select<strong> ‘Power Options’</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
5. Under <strong>‘Plans Shown on Battery Meter’</strong>, select<strong> ‘High performance’</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
6. If it does not exist under ‘Plans Shown on Battery Meter’, click the <strong>expansion arrow</strong> next to <strong>‘Hide additional plans’</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
7. Select <strong>‘High performance’</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
8. That’s it!</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
Now remember, this will greatly reduce your battery life if you are using a laptop that is not plugged in. If you are an individual who is always using their laptop away from a power outlet, this isn’t recommended for you. Thanks for stopping by, more tips to come!</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<span style="font-size: 18px;">Enable ReadyBoost on a Removable USB Flash Device</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
ReadyBoost is a feature new to both Windows 7 and Windows Vista operating systems.  Utilizing a high speed USB port, the computer can store information temporarily onto a separate USB device and access it quicker than from a hard drive.  The theory behind ReadyBoost is utilizing a separate removable USB flash device as your “hard drive cache” instead of your hard drive.  This makes sense for those of you who understand that a hard drive is slower than high speed flash drives.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
Not all USB ports and USB flash devices support the ReadyBoost technology, and to be honest, although this is great for a speed boost, it certainly isn’t worth going out and purchasing a “ReadyBoost” enabled flash drive.  This speed tip is one of those tips you follow if you have a USB flash drive lying around collecting dust, which most of us technology geeks have anyways.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
You will also not be able to use the ReadyBoost function if you do not have USB 2.0 on your computer.  Most computers that are capable of running Windows Vista and 7 were built long after 2.0 became a standard, so it would be surprising if your computer does not have ports of this speed.<br />
1. Plug in your<strong> ‘USB Flash Device’</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
2. Go to your <strong>‘Desktop’</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
3. Double click on <strong>‘Computer’</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
4. <strong>Locate </strong>the removable device on the list.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
5. Right click on the<strong> ‘USB Flash Device’</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
6. Select <strong>‘Properties’</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">

Previous Windows versions used to contain a boot loader without a GUI. It was similar to Command Prompt screen where you could use the arrow keys present in your keyboard to select the desired OS to boot.</div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
Microsoft replaced this classic boot loader with a brand new boot loader in Windows 8 which is now called "<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Boot Options Menu</strong>". It comes with a GUI and allows you to interact with your mouse as well. It provides various useful options such as troubleshoot PC startup problems, reset or <span style="color: #db7100; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: static;"><span class="kLink" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-style: none !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-top-width: 0px !important; display: inline !important; float: none !important; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 1px !important; position: static; width: auto !important;">repair </span><span class="kLink" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-style: none !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-top-width: 0px !important; display: inline !important; float: none !important; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 1px !important; position: static; width: auto !important;">Windows</span></span> 8, restore Windows, disable device driver signature check, access Safe Mode and much more.</div>

<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
You can check out following article to learn more about this new Windows 8 boot loader:</div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: underline;"><a href="http://www.askvg.com/how-to-access-and-use-windows-8-metro-boot-loader-and-advanced-boot-options/" style="color: #004276; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" title="How to Access and Use Windows 8 Metro Boot Loader and Advanced Boot Options?">How to Access and Use Windows 8 Metro Boot Loader and Advanced Boot Options?</a></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
But some people don't like this new boot loader. The reason is simple, this new boot loader first loads Windows 8 and then shows the OS selection screen. So if you want to boot into another OS, you'll need to wait for Windows 8 to load first and only then you can select the other OS from the boot options screen. It wastes your time and if you frequently switch between installed OS, it might become a little bit irritating. To solve this problem, we posted a tutorial to <span style="color: #db7100; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: static;"><span class="kLink" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-style: none !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-top-width: 0px !important; display: inline !important; float: none !important; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 1px !important; position: static; width: auto !important;">get </span><span class="kLink" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-style: none !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-top-width: 0px !important; display: inline !important; float: none !important; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 1px !important; position: static; width: auto !important;">Windows </span><span class="kLink" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-style: none !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-top-width: 0px !important; display: inline !important; float: none !important; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 1px !important; position: static; width: auto !important;">Vista</span></span> or Windows 7 style boot loader back in Windows 8:</div>

<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
If we talk about the new <strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">boot screen</strong> present in Windows 8, its quite similar to boot screens present in previous Windows versions such as Windows 7. It shows Windows 8 logo in the middle along with a new circle animation to show the progress as shown in following image:</div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">

<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">

<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
It supports both 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows 8. You just need to download the software and run the appropriate EXE file. Once launched, it looks like following:</div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
<img alt="Windows_8_Boot_Screen_Tuner.png" pxz:uid="1230de3fed4-2" src="http://media.askvg.com/articles/images4/Windows_8_Boot_Screen_Tuner.png" style="border: 0px currentColor; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" /></div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
Using this tool is very easy. Just enable or disable the desired option and click on apply button. You'll need to restart your system to take effect. It also allows you to restore default settings.</div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
This freeware allows you to <strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">enable advanced options of Windows 8 boot menu</strong> which are displayed at each startup. Its very useful because you don't need to press any extra key to get that advanced boot options screen. You can easily access options such as <span style="color: #db7100; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: static;"><span class="kLink" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-style: none !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-top-width: 0px !important; display: inline !important; float: none !important; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 1px !important; position: static; width: auto !important;">safe </span><span class="kLink" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-style: none !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-top-width: 0px !important; display: inline !important; float: none !important; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 1px !important; position: static; width: auto !important;">mode</span></span>, boot logging, driver signature check, etc.</div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
It also allows you to enable editing of kernel parameters at startup. Though not many users will find it useful.</div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
You can also <strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">disable new metro boot loader</strong> and bring back Windows 7 style boot loader which we explained in <span style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: underline;"><a href="http://www.askvg.com/how-to-disable-new-metro-boot-loader-and-bring-back-windows-vista-and-7-style-boot-loader-in-windows-8/" style="color: #004276; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">this tutorial</a></span> as well.</div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
Apart from tweaking boot options menu screen, it also allows you to customize Windows 8 boot screen UI. You can <strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">disable Windows 8 logo</strong>, <strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">circle animation</strong> and <strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">text messages at boot screen</strong> using this little utility.</div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
Basically you can use a built-in command <strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">bcdedit</strong> of <span style="color: #db7100; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: static;"><span class="kLink" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-style: none !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-top-width: 0px !important; display: inline !important; float: none !important; font-family: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 1px !important; position: static; width: auto !important;">Windows </span></span>to  modify various boot loader options to apply all these tweaks and customizations but it'll require some expertise and with the help of this free tool you can do all these things quickly and easily.</div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">
As you can see it might become a very useful tool for Windows 8 users. If you want to tweak and customize Windows 8 boot screen and boot loader, you can download it using following link:</div>
<div style="line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 0px;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 14.25pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">If
you visited the <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><a href="http://www.ubuntu.com/">Ubuntu home page</a></b> early this morning,
you couldn’t have missed the countdown timer that promised something, “So
close, you can almost touch it.” Most assumed it to be about a fully
touch-optimized UI for the next version of the popular Linux distribution, but
it turned out to be something even more significant. In an announcement earlier
today, Canonical unveiled Ubuntu for phones, a fully working Ubuntu
distribution meant for existing and future mobile handsets.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 14.25pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">If
you are thinking “Wait, wasn’t Ubuntu for Android already announced last year,”
you aren’t alone. Upon first hearing the news, that was the first thing that
came to my mind as well. However, this is a whole different project with a much
more ambitious aim and broader scope. While Ubuntu for Android was built to run
in tandem with Google’s mobile OS to offer a full Ubuntu desktop experience
only when docked, Ubuntu for phones is a complete OS in and of itself, entirely
independent of Android. Before we get into the details, check out a <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><a href="http://www.theverge.com/2013/1/2/3828266/ubuntu-phone-os-hands-on">hands-on
video</a></b> courtesy of The Verge. You will notice significant amounts
of lag, but don’t be alarmed because this could be due to this being a
development build that is not yet ready for release.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 14.25pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Here’s
another, much more detailed 22 minute video featuring the founder of Canonical,
Mark Shuttleworth himself, presenting Ubuntu for phones:</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 14.25pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen" frameborder="0" height="266" mozallowfullscreen="mozallowfullscreen" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/cpWHJDLsqTU?feature=player_embedded" webkitallowfullscreen="webkitallowfullscreen" width="320"></iframe></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 14.25pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">An announcement like this one is bound to receive
mixed reactions. The Linux and Ubuntu enthusiasts among you must be rejoicing
at the idea of getting an official and fully native Ubuntu experience that’s
tailored for the small screen, rather than being a mere port of the desktop OS.
At the same time, the skeptics must be wondering why on earth Canonical decided
to release yet another mobile OS. With Android and iOS dominating the mobile
ecosystem, the chances of a new smartphone platform thriving don’t seem too
bright. After all, we’ve seen the lack of commercial success in Windows Phone,
which despite Microsoft’s efforts over the past couple of years, has yet to
grab significant smartphone market share. Though before we jump to conclusions,
let’s give Ubuntu for phone a fair chance to at least present itself. So enough
talk, let’s take a look at what Canonical has to offer the smartphone world.</span></div>

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 22pt;">The User Interface</span></h2>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 14.25pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt; mso-fareast-language: EN-IN; mso-no-proof: yes;"></span><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt;"></span><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 14.25pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">From
the details provided by Canonical and what can be seen in The Verge’s hands-on
video, the OS clearly derives significant inspiration from the excellent but
ill-fated Nokia N9. There are no on-screen or on-device buttons (it <i><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;">is</span></i> running on a Galaxy Nexus, after
all); and the OS is entirely gesture-driven. Edge-initiated swipes can be a
great way to launch and navigate between apps, as we have already seen in case
of the N9, and Ubuntu for phone makes full use of these gestures. Here’s how
the UI works:</span></div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Instead of a lock screen, you wake the device to a welcome
screen that shows you a stunning visualization of useful information such as
the number of messages and tweets waiting for you, the distance you have
walked, the time you have talked on the phone, and much more. All this
information evolves as you keep on using your device.</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Instead of providing you with app icons, tiles or widgets, the
home screen shows you your most frequently used content including most used
apps, most contacted people, and most played media.</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">A short swipe from the left edge brings up a bar of apps while
a long swipe shows you all the currently running apps.
Being accessible from anywhere across the OS, these gestures make app
launching and switching super-fast.</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Symbol; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Symbol; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: Symbol;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;"><span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> </span></span></span><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Similarly, swiping from the right edge switches to the
previously used app. This works in chronological order for all the apps you
use, making app switching a breeze.</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Symbol; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Symbol; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: Symbol;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;"><span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> </span></span></span><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Swiping downwards from the top bar performs different actions
depending on the icon in the notification bar you swipe down from. For
instance, swiping down on the speaker icon brings up the volume controls, while
doing the same on the message icon shows you all your messages, also allowing
you to reply to them instantly from right there., rather than having to tap a
notification and launch the app. This works not only for messages but also for
tweets, email, Facebook interactions and phone calls.</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">As mentioned above, there are no system-wide controls other than
gestures, hence there are no universal buttons. However, swiping up from the
bottom edge reveals the control bar for in-app actions whenever required.</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Global search feature will let you quickly access apps as well
as content relevant to the current context from anywhere in the OS as well as
online results.</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Similarly, there will be fully integrated voice as well as text
command support at both system and app level.</span></li>
</ul>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 14.25pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Based
on the above, the user experience offered by the UI itself seems outstandingly
intuitive. It was a pity to see this excellent gesture-driven interface not
make it to the masses in form of the N9 due to Nokia’s decision to ditch the
platform, and we hope things fare better for Ubuntu.</span></div>
<h2>
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 22pt;">Docking Support</span></h2>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<h2>
</h2>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 14.25pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt; mso-fareast-language: EN-IN; mso-no-proof: yes;"></span><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt;"></span><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 14.25pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Smartphones
of today have become powerful enough to be useful as our daily use PCs, but
their size and form factor makes them unsuitable for getting serious work done.
We have previously seen several attempts to do this by the likes of <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1104">ASUS</a></b> and
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><a href="http://www.xda-developers.com/android/webtop-achieved-on-atrix-via-hdmi-without-a-dock/">Motorola</a></b>,
some of which have been successful in their niche, while others have faded into
obscurity. One issue that keeps manufacturers from converging several devices
into one is obviously commercial interest. It doesn’t seem to be a smart
business choice to sell a phone that does it all for most users, when you can
sell the same user a phone, a tablet, and a laptop or desktop PC. Nevertheless,
with ~2 GHz quad-core processors, multi-core GPUs, 720p & 1080p HD
displays, 32/64GB internal storage, and 2 GB RAM becoming the norm, this
convergence is bound to happen sooner or later. While the likes of hardcore
gamers, graphic designers and video editors will still buy PCs, these powerful
phones have already adequate power for the average user who primarily only
needs to play casual games, edit some documents, watch videos, listen to music,
and browse the Internet.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 14.25pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">With
Ubuntu for Android, Canonical had aimed to converge our devices into one,
offering a full desktop computer experience right from our phones when docked
with a display, keyboard, and mouse. The same docking support is also there in
Ubuntu for phones. Canonical aims to offer the OS on both mid-range and
high-end devices, and the latter will be able to offer a full PC experience,
allowing you to use your phone as your primary computer that you can carry
around wherever you go. Being optimistic, we can even start expecting laptop
and tablet terminals that only offer the screen, I/O devices, a few extra
ports, and high-capacity batteries. These will then use our phones for the
computation work itself, just like the <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><a href="http://www.asus.com/Mobile/PadFone/">ASUS Padfone</a>.</b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 14.25pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">From
what we have seen above, things definitely look great for Ubuntu. Though the UI
or docking support alone can’t offer a great experience, which brings us to the
ecosystem.</span></div>
<h2>
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 22pt;">The App Ecosystem</span></h2>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhuHY9y3x75v1zQnqxjK-hIeql_0lgeOUqFGhRLqInHUlLP3JKxJHxkVKcolxhKTfOv4RoOQs2Th6Bk31lXNi7Hfwt5EDsOGAm41EhKfHa8gm41bFpYBy6-lMcgalvXlsHi_5eCZVJT03k/s1600/Ubuntu-for-Phones-Apps.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhuHY9y3x75v1zQnqxjK-hIeql_0lgeOUqFGhRLqInHUlLP3JKxJHxkVKcolxhKTfOv4RoOQs2Th6Bk31lXNi7Hfwt5EDsOGAm41EhKfHa8gm41bFpYBy6-lMcgalvXlsHi_5eCZVJT03k/s320/Ubuntu-for-Phones-Apps.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<h2>
<span style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Ubuntu
for phones will ship with all the core apps you would expect from any mobile OS
such as phone dialler, SMS & MMS, web browser, email client, camera, photo
gallery, music & video player, calculator, alarm clock, and so on.
Furthermore, all popular HTML5-based web apps will be readily available for the
platform, and will work side-by-side with native apps, complete with their own
icons and access to the notification system.</span></span></h2>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 14.25pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Apart
from the web apps, the platform will also enjoy fully native third-party apps.
And unlike Android, there will be no Dalvik virtual machine, which will force
these apps to be written in native code. If you are a developer, this will be
your primary interest, so let’s take a look at what the platform has to offer
the developer community.</span></div>
<h2>
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 22pt;">App Development</span></h2>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 14.25pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">We
have seen on multiple occasions (webOS and BlackBerry) how developer interest
can truly make or break a platform. With almost every modern smartphone out
there offering the hardware specs and every smartphone OS offering all the core
features required from such devices, the number and quality of apps available
for the platform is truly the deciding factor for many users when purchasing
their next phone or tablet. This may be a little too early to say right nowm
but in case of Ubuntu for phone, the future doesn’t look dark in this
regard—even if not too bright just yet.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 14.25pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Canonical
made the excellent choice to make Ubuntu for phones not a separate OS from its
desktop variant, but rather the very same OS, merely with a different UI. This
means apps written for Ubuntu PCs will run on Ubuntu phones and vice versa,
with only minimal changes required in the code to support the different form
factor and instruction set. The already established Ubuntu Software Center will
also cater to phones as the application discovery, distribution, and
installation platform. Ubuntu One is also integrated into the OS as the cloud
storage medium offering plenty of free space, with optional paid upgrades for
those who need them.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 14.25pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Ubuntu’s
web app APIs will allow any web app developer to provide their service as a
full application. With support for both HTML5 and native code, developers
will get a much wider choice for writing their apps. Using Ubuntu’s QML-based
development environment, you can write an app’s core features in C or C++, and
build its UI using JavaScript. In addition, you get full OpenGL support for

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">While
only time will tell whether Ubuntu for phones stands against its major
competitors in an already saturated market, or ends up suffering the same fate
as webOS or Meego, the concept as well as the product itself are both
promising. What we do see right now is a well-built OS, a promising app
ecosystem, and the much-needed convergence between platforms. Combined
together, these are all ingredients for success in this industry. That said,
how things actually turn out will also heavily depend upon manufacturer
support, as well as the marketing strategy adopted by both Canonical and device
manufacturers.</span></div>

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Trebuchet MS","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt;">While
you can’t try out the OS at the moment, Canonical has promised to make Ubuntu
for phone available for several existing devices within this year, starting
with the Galaxy Nexus. CES 2013 is just under a week away, and more details
will be revealed at that time. Furthermore, you’ll be able to grab the binaries
of the OS for your Galaxy Nexus within the next couple of weeks. However,
devices with Ubuntu pre-installed aren’t expected to start shipping before
2014.</span><br />

the forefront of Open Source realm. It represents both the ideals behind the
Android Open Source Project and the commitment to quality hardware we have come
to expect from Google’s Nexus line of devices. It had many ports in the Past
like Jellybean and Ubuntu. The latest groundbreaking piece of software for the
Nexus 7 has arrived in the form of an untethered (meaning no PC connection is
required to boot and run the firmware) port of HP’s webOS.</span></span></div>

work in this field ran little risk, the older builds were barely functional
alphas that required a steady PC connection (also known as a ‘tethered

build, requires a PC to boot, but runs on its own after that. Additionally,
hardware acceleration has not been fully realized, meaning there is still
plenty of work to be done.</span></span></div>
